Gardeners Wanted
At GROW we view the garden as a tool which we can utilize to teach others how to grow food for themselves as well as a platform for helping students understand a wide range of science concepts. The main demonstration garden is located downhill from the natural playground at our project site, within Two Rivers Park. It's comprised of two terraced sections (one a tradition raised bed style, the other a "hugelkultur" style) and some tilled area for row crop planting. It's design invites visitors to explore and consider creative ideas for gardening in urban spaces, especially ones on a steep slope.
We use the garden for a number of innitiatives including:
- homeschool programing
- public school field trip education
- public demonstration and education efforts
If you have an interest in organic gardening please consider joining this team! We are seeking both skilled laborers, such as Master Gardeners, and unskilled laborers. Tasks will range from garden planning and design, to planting, to organic pest control, to labeling of individual plants with scientific names for the literary benefit of our many students.
